作品主人公黑骏马是一匹漂亮的优种黑马，从小他就生活在贵族人家，吃着优良的饲料，受过良好的训练，性格十分的温顺和善良。并且他聪明、机智、勇敢，主人和他的家人都十分喜爱他。但是好景不长，主人家里有了变故，黑骏马被迫被卖掉，他一连被买过很多次，在这段时刻里，他接触过各种人：一喝多就拿马撒气的醉汉。不会驾驶马车的外行人，一向紧紧的拉着马车缰绳，从来不让马的嘴巴松弛一下，也不给马一点点自由行动的空间，那些赶车人觉得只有这样做，才稳妥。
